Hoje sargentos do Exército, os medalhistas olímpicos Leandro Guilheiro e Flávio Canto vão se ver diante de uma situação delicada em 2011. Como os dois agora competem na categoria meio-médio (até 81kg), apenas um deles vai poder disputar os Jogos Mundiais Militares, no Rio de Janeiro. O mesmo se dará nos Jogos Pan-Americanos de Guadalajara, campeonato que vale pontos para o ranking de classificação às Olimpíadas de Londres-2012. Quem vai bater o martelo e dividir os judocas entre as competições é a Confederação Brasileira de Judô (CBJ).
Os Jogos Mundiais, de 16 a 24 de julho, serão o primeiro grande desafio militar desde que os judocas garantiram suas fardas. Por outro lado, o Pan de Guadalajara, de 14 a 30 de outubro, terá peso para determinar quem irá às Olimpíadas.
O Pan faz parte do grupo de 26 campeonatos contam pontos para Londres-2012, onde cada país terá apenas um representante por categoria. Bronze em Atenas-2004 e em Pequim-2008 na leve, Leandro Guilheiro está em terceiro do ranking (1.020 pontos) de seu novo peso. Canto, bronze na meio-médio em Atenas, é o sexto (720). Quem lidera é o coreano Jae-Bum Kim, com 1.800 pontos.
No Pan do Rio, em 2007, Guilheiro conquistou a prata na leve. Canto não competiu porque se recuperava de uma lesão no ombro direito. Foi ouro em Santo Domingo-2003, prata em Winnipeg-1999 e bronze em Mar Del Plata-1995.
- A gente ainda não sabe qual vai ser o critério adotado. A comissão técnica vai tomar essa decisão em conjunto com a gente - explicou Guilheiro.

At the Pan River in 2007 Guilheiro won silver in the light. Singing did not compete because he was recovering from a right shoulder injury. It was gold in Santo Domingo-2003, silver in Winnipeg-1999 and bronze in Mar del Plata-1995.
- We still do not know what will be the criterion. The technical committee will make that decision together with us - explained Guilheiro.
