A Federação Internacional de Judô divulgou nesta terça-feira, dia 18, a primeira atualização do ranking mundial de 2011, após a disputa do IJF Masters de Baku, no Azerbaijão, no último fim de semana. O Brasil subiu pela primeira vez na temporada duas vezes, com uma medalha de prata conquistada por Leandro Guilheiro (81kg) e uma de bronze por Sarah Menezes (48kg). Com a prata, Leandro somou mais 240 pontos na lista, enquanto o terceiro lugar de Sarah garantiu outros 160 pontos.
O brasileiro mais bem colocado no ranking é Leandro Guilheiro, que após o resultado no Masters ganhou uma posição e é o vice-líder do ranking mundial e olímpico na categoria até 81kg com 1140 pontos. Sarah Menezes manteve o quinto lugar na lista e, entre as mulheres, é a mais bem colocada. Para os Jogos Olímpicos de Londres 2012, os 22 homens mais bem colocados na lista garantem vaga, enquanto, no feminino, as 14 melhores mulheres estarão presentes. Apenas um atleta por país poderá estar presente em Londres. Sendo assim, caso mais de um judoca da mesma nacionalidade esteja dentro do critério de classificação, o próximo da lista ganha posição. Na categoria da brasileira Sarah Menezes, a japonesa Tomoko Fukumi lidera o ranking, seguida pelas compatriotas Haruma Asami e Emi Yamagishi. Pela regra, a romena Alina Dumitru, na quarta posição, salta para o segundo lugar, enquando Sarah Menezes passa da quinta para a terceira colocação.
